Abstract

Dating: This document dated 24 April 1893 CE; saṃvat 1950 vaiśākha śudi 9. Summary: This legal notice (खत) concerns a transaction between a creditor (dhanī) named Lakṣmaṇ Rāy, son of Adujī Nāyak, and a borrower (udhārnī) named 'Abd al-Ghanī, son of Amīr al-Dīn b. Shaykh Ināyat al-Pīrzādah. The borrower took an interest-free loan of ₹200. He makes certain conditions to repay the loan through a 5 year mortgage on his property near (the shrine of) Kamāl Maulwī sāhab, half of which belongs to his brother Mu'īn al-Dīn sāhab and half to the borrower himself. The document is said to be drawn up by the borrower out of his own goodwill.
