Abstract

Ptychopseustis fuscalis sp. n. Imago (fig. 42): Wingspan 20 mm. Head and appendages pale fuscous, maxillary palpus ¾ diameter of eye, labial palpus porrect, 2.5 × diameter of eye. Thorax and tegulae pale fuscous. Forewing pale fuscous with a suffusion of darker scales, irregular antemedian fascia dark fuscous meeting costa with a blackish spot at ⅓, postmedian fascia similar meeting costa at 4/5, disc paler with fuscous scales distally, termen sinuate below apex with double fuscous line, fringe with a further fuscous line. Hindwing pale fuscous, an evenly curved postmedian fascia, as series of dark fuscous spots along termen, fringe with a fuscous line. Abdomen pale fuscous. hind leg with large dark fuscous tuft. Male genitalia: not known. Female genitalia (fig.105): Ostial chamber cylindrical, ductus long widening before corpus bursae, an arc shaped sclerite at junction of ductus and corpus bursae, large membranous bulla on side of corpus bursae. Diagnosis: Distinguished from other species in the genus by the termen being strongly sinuate below apex and the uniform pale fuscous colouration. Life history: not known. Derivation: from the colour of the wings. Distribution: Tanzania. Type material: Holotype ♀ TANZANIA: Arumeru Distr. Usa River 1170 m 19.vii.1991 leg L. Aarvik (NHMO). Paratype ♀ TANZANIA, Arusha N.P. Momela Rd. 5300 ft 3° 16’ 17” S 36° 50’ 57” E 9.v.2001 D.J.L. Agassiz (DJLA).
