Abstract

“Mentale Aufbauprojekte” nennt sie die Architekturkritikerin Karin Wilhelm in ihrem Beitrag über das Berliner Bikini-Haus. Im Sommerheft von moderneREGIONAL (Redaktion: Daniel Bartetzko/Julius Reinsberg) geht es um große Bauten mit kleinen Chancen. Mal standen sie für politische Utopien, mal verkörperten sie die hoffnungsvolle Wirtschaftswunderzeit. Mit viel Optimismus packte man Kultur und Kommerz, Verwaltung und Wohnen in ein einziges Gebäude. Heute fordert uns diese schiere Größe heraus: (zu) viel Raum und (zu) viele Nutzungen unter einem Dach. In ihrem Leitartikel fragt Kerstin Wittmann-Englert – am Beispiel des ICC – nach der Zukunft dieser Großbauten. Karin Wilhelm lässt die Aufbruchsstimmung der Nachkriegsjahre wieder aufleben. Wie rasch die modernen Kolosse aufeinander folgten, umreißt Olaf Gisbertz anhand des Kröpcke-Centers Hannover. Die ungebaute sozialistische Utopie zeichnet Julius Reinsberg nach. Für das ehemalige Hamburger Einkaufszentrum “frappant” blickt Sylvia Necker hinter die Kulissen. Peter Cachola Schmal begeistert sich im Interview für das charmant überdimensionierte Gothaer-Haus in Offenbach. Und Karin Berkemann gräbt sich durch die moderne Baugeschichte des monumentalen Kulturhauses Zinnowitz.
