Análisis de la producción científica de la UPV/EHU en el Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)

Abstract

En noviembre de 2015 Thomson Reuters lanzó Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) dentro de la Web of Science (WoS), a modo de puerta abierta para aquellas revistas que actualmente no cumplen los estrictos criterios para ser incluidas en la Web Core Collection, pero que, si demuestran su impacto, pueden ser tenidas en cuenta. Según sus creadores, ESCI no responde ni a un área geográfica ni a un campo científico, no obstante, constituye una sala de espera muy interesante para las publicaciones españolas con una investigación más local, como sucede en las áreas de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales y para los investigadores que publican en tales campos. Bajo esta perspectiva y aún dada la limitación temporal, ya que ESCI sólo recoge registros desde 2015, se analiza la producción científica de la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) en esta base, para dilucidar las principales características de la literatura contenida aquí: temática, revistas, colaboración, idiomas, tipos y categorías WOS. Resulta evidente que la presencia de publicaciones en ESCI otorga una mayor visibilidad y relevancia para las revistas, los autores y las instituciones donde trabajan. De cara al futuro más inmediato, queda por saber si, por un lado, las citas recibidas les permitirán acceder al selecto club de la Core Collection; y por otro si las agencias de calidad españolas reconocerán de forma explícita el valor de las revistas ESCI, especialmente en aquellas áreas con una mayor ambigüedad de criterios.
