Clade anomalus Recent phylogenetic evidence (e.g. Espinoza et al. 2004, Abdala 2007) suggests that L. anomalus, L. ditadai, L. duellmani and L. pseudoanomalus might form a natural group closely related to the boulengeri complex (or even a phylogenetic line nested within this complex; e.g. Pincheira-Donoso et al. 2007a; see also Abdala 2007). Although we recognize that further studies might be needed to support Espinoza et al. ’s (2004) and Abdala’s (2007) phylogenetic hypotheses with additional evidence, we also recognize their value, and hence, this is the position we adopt in our work.
