PECHMANN'S CONDENSATION OF METHYL β-RESOR- CYLATE WITH ETHYL α-ALKYLACETOACETATES.

Abstract

Methyl β-resorcylate has been condensed with ethyl α-methyl-, α-ethyl-, α-propyl-, α-butyl-. and α-bensyl acetoacetates in the presence of sulphuric acid. In each case the condensation product is a mixture of 7-hydroxy-3-alkyl-4-methylcoumarin-6-carboxylic acid and its Methyl ester.
