Centalla a siatica from Ceylon has been found to contain salts, sugar, essential oils and a nitrogen-and sulphur-containing pectin. The most characteristic components are, however, three polyhydroxy triterpenic acids, viz., centic, centoic and centellic acids, and a water-soluble glycoside, centelloside, the aglycone of which is identical with centellic acid.
