ABOUT A COMPUTATIONAL RECONSTRUCTION OF INCOMMENSURABILITY Abstract: Non-translatability and comparability, as fundamental topics of the incommensurability thesis in Thomas Kuhn, are computationally reconstructed 1n Paul Thagard's Conceptual Revolutions. This reconstruction tries to restore to Kuhn's approach certain aspects of rationality and objectivity in the assessment of incommensurable theories. Our goal is to examine the bearings of such enterprise. Kuhn holds the possibility of several degrees of comparison between incommensurable theories, ranging from comparison that takes place with respect to a common evidence, through a diffuse notion of holistic comparability. Thagard’s computational reconstruction accounts for the first degrees of comparability, but 1t doesn't do it for holistic comparability. Moreover, from the analysis of the current version of this ECHO program, it would not be possible to perform a computational reconstruction of such a comparability. Keywords: Comparability; Explanation; Explanatory Coherence; Incommensurability; Theory Assessment.
