By conductivity, thermometry and chemical methods it has been shown that the primary reaction between caustic soda and fluobetyllate ion occurs according to the equation : BeF42- + 2OH- = Be (OH)2 + 4F' ; the secondary reaction, _i.e. the dissolution of Be (OH)2 in excess of alkali. occars subsequently, forming beryllate ion ; no indication of the formation of (BeH3OH)2- has been found.
