The goal of this paper is to provide an aligned view on the common strategic objectives across the European IoT ecosystem, linking to the relevant policies to provide tailored recommendations for mechanisms and structures to align policy objectives and technology development. This document will first present an overview of the Next-generation Internet of Things, followed with a metadata review of the alignment of priorities within innovation and deployment from the IoT ecosystem with an analysis of the relevant legislations and policies. The goal of this paper is not to replicate nor confuse the significant work already produced in this area and aims to fill the gaps in between. This is a first version which provides the ground for future inputs from key experts and communities which will be captured in a second version to be published in March 2023 with updated legislations and strategic research agendas.
