3-Hydroxy-, 4-hydroxy- and 3 : 4-dihydroxy-benzaldehydes have been condensed with ethyl acetoacetate and ethyl benzoylacetate in the presence or piperidine, pyridine and Intidine. The resulting mono- and bis-esters have been characterised.
