Abstract

Palavras-chave: insetos; história natural do Brasil holandês; século XVII; Georg Marcgrave. BRAZILIAN INSECTS DESCRIBED BY THE NATURALIST GEORG MARCGRAVE (1610-C.1644) Abstract: The present work studies the “insects” described by the naturalist Georg Marcgrave (1610-c. 1644) during your stay in the Brazilian Northeast, in the period from 1638 to 1643. Tried to do a comparison and analysis of two historical works presumably, they are authorship of Marcgrave: the Book VII of Historiae rerum naturalium Brasiliae and Libri Principis. The Book VII treats of 75 copies, of which 63 are insects and 12 other terrestrial arthropods. In LP there are 58 watercolors that represent insects and other arhropodos exist. In relation to the insects, it can be concluded that it was in one another series of drawings that the woodblocks of Book VII had been based. Based on taxonomic tracks a revision was made of these insects concluding itself for its little local representation. Keywords: insects; natural history of Dutch Brazil; 17th century; Georg Marcgrave
