LA CONTAMINACIÓN ACÚSTICA Y SU IMPACTO EN EL DESARROLLO DE LA VIDA MARINA

Abstract

Uno de los principales problemas de los últimos años es la contaminaciónambiental. Producto de las actividades humanas, se genera la mayor parte de los contaminantes que terminan en algún cuerpo de agua, incluyendo todos los ruidos de origen humano generados dentro de ambientes marinos como producto de diversas actividades industriales, lo que se conoce como contaminación acústica submarina. En ese contexto, el presente artículo buscó explorar el impacto de la contaminación acústica submarina sobre la vida y desarrollo de las criaturas marinas y las formas de mitigación que están siendo implementadas para combatir esta situación. Para ello, se realizó una investigación bibliográfica, en la cual se revisaron bases de datos para recopilar información relevante acerca del tema. La investigación realizada halló que, aunque en los últimos años han aumentado las actividades industriales en altamar que resultan provechosas para el desarrollo de la economía mundial, durante mucho tiempo se ignoró el gran impacto del ruido sobre el desarrollo de la vida marina, causando desde cambios en el comportamiento, hasta daños a su integridad física, e interfiriendo en actividades diarias importantes como la comunicación, navegación o su supervivencia. Se concluyó que es importante priorizar los estudios orientados a obtener información sobre la naturaleza del ruido submarino, la capacidad auditiva de los diferentes seres marinos y los efectos del ruido submarino en ellos para implementar leyes y regulaciones eficientes y preservar adecuadamente los sonidos del océano.
