HISTOPATHOLOGICAL CHANGES IN PATIENTS WITH ABDOMINAL WALL HERNIA AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH COLLAGENOSIS

Abstract

A hernia is recurrent when a new bulge appears where it was previously operated on. Of the total number of plasties in Mexico, 25% are surgeries due to recurrence of inguinal hernias. There are factors that influence the recurrence of inguinal hernias: Excessive suture tension, elevations in intra-abdominal pressure, defects in collagen metabolism, comorbidities, local factors of the surgical site, surgical technique and experience of the surgeon. Of a total of 39 patients, differences were found in the percentage of collagen in midline aponeurosis samples with a history of hernia, respectively (p=0.001). Therefore, there are significant differences in the variables of the type of wall hernia, collagenosis, as well as in the macroscopic characteristics of the aponeurosis. Similarly, differences were found in the type of sex, predominantly male, and a prevalence of > 60 years. Between BMI and collagen decrease, a positive correlation was not established. Objective: To evaluate and analyze the results obtained by light microscopy of the structure of collagen fibers in patients with and without hernia pathology. Material and methods: The histopathological study of the midline aponeurosis was carried out in patients with a diagnosis of abdominal wall hernia, the comparison group will be patients who underwent surgery without evidence or history of defect. Descriptive and inferential analysis was performed in order to compare whether there were changes in the amount of collagen in both groups. Results: In patients with clinically evidenced wall hernia, interstitial matrix collagen turnover (p 0.05) decreased compared to controls.c Conclusions: Patients who present a wall hernia of any location concomitantly will present another hernia of any other region of the economy P 0.036, so it is suggested that in daily practice the intentional search for another defect and if possible perform the same perform the intervention in the same surgical time in this way, reducing costs and anesthetic risks.
