A quantitative study of the interaction of vanadyl (IV) ion with tartaric and malic acids has been carried out by the potentiometric titrations of vanadyl ion with KOH in the presence of varying concentrations of the ligands. Formation of 1 :1 vanadyl tartrate and malate complexes has been indicated and the equilibrium constants of the reactions have been determined in a 0.1 M KCI medium. On the basis of a mathematical analysis of the potentiometric data, probable reaction mechanisms have been suggested.
