Abstract

1-Diazo-4(3-isopropyl-6-methyl-1-cyclohexene)2-butanone prepared from 3(3-isppropyl-6-methyl-1- cyclohexene) propanoyl chloride, on decomposition with anhydrous copper sulphate in refluxing n-hexane yields 5, 6 cyclohexano-7-isopropyl-10-methyl-bicyclo (3,1,0) hexan-2-one which when submitted to Wittig's reaction with methylene-triphenyl-phosphorane furnishes \(\beta\)-Cubebene.
