Abstract

Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh-14 (Manuscript received 28 April 1972; revised 22 August 1972; accepted 27 September 1972) Synthesis of a diastereoisomeric mixture (±) lilac alcohol(I) has been accomplished through the cyclisation of 2,6-dimethyl-oct-2,7-diene-7-oloate with sodium hydride in benzene followed by reduction with lithium aluminium hydride.
