Luehea platypetala Richard 1841

Abstract

Luehea platypetala Richard (1841: 212). Type:— CUBA. Ciudad de la Habana: Guanabo, Ramon de la Sagra s.n. (lectotype, designated here, P! [P 02142928]; isolectotypes P! [P 02142929], [P 02142930]). [= Luehea speciosa Willd.] Richard (1841) described L. platypetala based on the Ramon de la Sagra s.n. collection, as reported in the preface. Both Richard and De la Sagra worked in herbarium P, where the collections are kept (Stafleu & Cowan 1976 –1988: 758, 1055). In this herbarium we found three specimens associated with the name L. platypetala. Therefore, in accordance with Art. 9.3 of the ICN, we designate herein specimen P 02142928 as the lectotype of L. platypetala, by choosing the best-preserved sample and the one that best represents the protologue’s description. The name L. platypetala has been considered as a synonym of L. speciosa (Schumann 1886).
