Asianthrips setifer Okajima & Masumoto 2022, sp. n.

Abstract

Asianthrips setifer sp. n. (Figs 23, 124–129) Female macroptera. Colour and structure very similar to A. bicolor (Fig. 23), but distinct in the following character states:Antennal segments IV and V each with a series of 7–11 setae arranged in a longitudinal line on ventral surface (Fig. 125); eyes 0.42 times as long as head (Fig. 124); posterior portion of metanotum longitudinally reticulated, but weak; mesopresternum and mesoeusternum (Figs. 127 & 128) narrowly fused medially, with long sutures between them at both sides, one of which is longer than 1/3 of the posterior width of mesopresternum; fore wing with 3–5 duplicated cilia. Measurements. Female holotype (mac.) in microns. Distended body length 1840. Head length 170, width across cheeks 160. Compound eye dorsal length 71–72. Pronotum length 90, width 211. Fore wing length about 720. Tube length 100, width across base 55. Antenna length about 370, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 52 (30), 55 (30), 50 (26), 45 (23), 45 (21), 30 (13). Postocular setae 66–70. Pronotal aa 43–44, am 42–43, ml 52–53, pa 55–56, epim 62–63. S1 setae on tergite IX 70–71, S2 setae on tergite IX 75–75. Anal setae?105. Type series. Holotype female (mac.): Indonesia, South Sulawesi (= Celebes), Karaenta Forest Res., Maros to Camba, alt. about 400m, on dead Palmae, 6.viii.1984 (SO). Paratypes: Indonesia, 2 females (mac.), collected with holotype. Remarks. A. setifer is very similar to A. bicolor from Thailand in appearance, but these two species are easily distinguished by above description and the key, and possibly they are not so closely related. The character states of the antennal chaetotaxy and the fusion of mesopresternum and mesoeusternum of A. setifer are rather similar to those of A. dentipes from Java and Bali, Indonesia.
