Phanoperla himalayana Zwick 1977

Abstract

Phanoperla himalayana Zwick, 1977 (Fig. 3) Phanoperla himalayana Zwick, 1977: 124. (Original description of female holotype); Zwick & Sivec, 1980: 129. (Description of male); Zwick, 1982: 99. (Redescription of male and female); Mason & Stark, 2015: 30. (Provisional key to Phanoperla males). Material examined. 2 males, 1 female (CAUC and HIST), China: Tibet, Motuo County, Beibeng Township, Jiangxincun, 2019.V.29, N29.2253°, E95.1309°, 800m, Qicheng Yang leg., light trap. Distribution. This species was originally described on the basis of the female holotype from Wangdiphordrang, central Bhutan. Previously only known from India, Bhutan and Nepal (Zwick, 1982). And these specimens represent the first record from China. Diagnosis. Phanoperla himalayana is characterized by the two dorsolateral swellings of the aedeagal tube and the irregular row of hooks of the aedeagal sac medially on dorsal side. Remarks. The head pattern (Fig. 3a), venation of forewing, aedeagal armatures (Figs. 3c–d) of our specimens follows the original description and figures by Zwick (1977). Tergum VIII has a bilobed-projecting posterior margin (see fig. 6a in Zwick, 1982) which is complete in our specimens (Fig. 3c). Tubular apex of new specimens is long and has a dark apical sclerite (Figs. 3b, d), which was possibly not everted in types (see fig. 6d in Zwick, 1982).
