Manuscript received 28 February 1976, revised 17, June 1977, accepted 3 October 1977 Barium and potassium oxyhyponitrites are found to behave exactly alike and like the sodium salt : nitrogen(l) oxide is the main gaseous product in all the three cases. No nitric oxide is produced except if the nitrite produced decomposes. Nitrate is formed though no nitric oxide is present in the products.
