Deltocephalus (Recilia) parapruthii Chalam and Ramasubba Rao, new species

Abstract

Deltocephalus (Recilia) parapruthii Chalam and Ramasubba Rao, new species (Figs 10 –17) Description Stramineous, 3.13 to 3.57 mm long. Head wider than pronotum. Anterior margin of vertex with light brown spots and pale brown fasciae extending to scutellum. Vertex; subacute, longer than its width, with median, prominent coronal sulcus. Anterior margin of vertex broadly and smoothly rounded to face. Ocelli visible, dorsally located on anterior margin of vertex close to eyes. Pronotum wider than its length. Fore wings; subhyaline, pale ochraceous, veins margined by dark brown areas, four apical and three anteapical cells, and outer anteapical cell divided with clear appendix. Additional cross veins on proximal part of the fore wing making wing venation reticulate. Abdominal sternal apodemes moderately long and truncated. FIGURES. 10–17. Deltocephalus (Recilia) parapruthii sp. n. 10. Pygofer; 11.Fused connective and aedeagus, dorsal view; 12. Fused connective and aedeagus, lateral view; 13. Abdominal sternal apodemes; 14. Valve; 15. Subgenital plate; 16. Style; 17. Fore wing. Male genitalia —Pygofer simple, without prominent processes, longer than its height in lateral view, and with apical macro setae. Valve rectangular. Subgenital plates wider basally, gradually narrowed to apex, and with marginal setae. Apophyses of styles finger like. Connective linear, longer than aedeagus. Aedeagal shaft short, stout, more or less of uniform width, curved dorsally with ventral margin produced in to small spine beyond gonopore. Measurements (N= 7) Males 3.13 to 3.19 mm long and 0.61 to 0.63 mm wide across eyes. Females 3.41 to 3.57 mm long and 0.82 to 0.88 mm wide across eyes. Type material HOLOTYPE, male, INDIA: Andhra Pradesh: Bapatla, light, 28.VIII.2002, M.S.V. Chalam. (NPC, IARI, New Delhi). PARATYPES, 1 males, 2 females, INDIA: Andhra Pradesh: Bapatla, light, 28.VIII.2002, M.S.V. Chalam (BMNH, London); 2 females, INDIA: Andhra Pradesh: Bapatla, light, 28.VIII.2002, M.S.V. Chalam (NPC, IARI, New Delhi); 1 male, INDIA: Andhra Pradesh: Nellore, light, 12.XII.2002, M.S.V. Chalam. (NPC, IARI, New Delhi). Remarks Externally, Deltocephalus (Recilia) parapruthii resembles Deltocephalus (Recilia) pruthii (Metcalf) in having additional cross veins in fore wing. But it distinctly differs from pruthii in having truncated abdominal sternal apodemes and in the shape of the aedeagal shaft. This species is named parapruthii because it externally resembles pruthii.
