Material examined. Syntype ɗ, with the following labels: 1. Museum circular redmargined label with “ TYPE ” pr; 2. “N. India ” hwr, on reverse “48. 134” hwr [BMNH register information for 1848 134 reads: “170 Rhynchota N. India (Almorah) Bought of Mr Warwick Part of Boyes collection - a selection £45”]; 3. “108. Lygaeus maculatus,” pr (cut out from the catalogue of Walker, 1872). Syntype Ψ, with the following labels: 1. “E. Ind.” hwr, on reverse “43. 43.” hwr; 2. “ Lygaeus ” pr, “ maculatus ” hwr, “Walker’s catal.” pr. Remarks. Originally described from “a. N. India. From Capt. Boys’s Collection.” and “b. India. From Archdeacon Clerk’s Collection.”. This species has a similar structure of the pronotum and scutellum to Tropidothorax species (see Lygaeus simla Distant) and is very similar to T. autolycus (Distant), but the latter species is slightly larger and has some differences in coloration.
