Agrilus catherinae Chevrolat

Authors: Westcott, Richard L.; Hespenheide, Henry A.;

Agrilus catherinae Chevrolat

Abstract

Agrilus catherinae (Chevrolat) The original spelling for this species (Chevrolat, 1835) was " catharinae "; however, in his description, Chevrolat (1835) stated: “Trouvé pour la première fois, par Mme Ve Sallé (Catherine)." According to ICZN Article 32.5.1, " catherinae " can be considered a justified emendation in that " catharinae " is a misspelling of the honoree’s name. Without stating a reason, Waterhouse (1889) used " catherinae," as have all subsequent authors, so that the spelling can also be considered a justified emendation under ICZN Article 33.2.3.1. Both interpretations of the situation therefore favor " catherinae " as the correct name. CHIH, Guasaremos, Río Mayo, 5-Viii-35, CASC; VER, Cotaxtla, 19-VI-87, CLBC.
