Neozavrelia kibunensis Tokunaga 1938, comb. nov.

Authors: Ekrem, Torbjørn;

Neozavrelia kibunensis Tokunaga 1938, comb. nov.

Abstract

Neozavrelia kibunensis (Tokunaga, 1938) comb. nov. Neozavrelia kibunensis was originally described as a member of the subgenus Zavrelia of the genus Tanytarsus by Tokunaga (1938). The species was included as Zavrelia in the Palaearctic catalogue (Ashe & Cranston 1990) and in the key to world Zavrelia species by Guo & Wang (2004). Type material was unfortunately not available for examination and is partly missing (T. Kobayashi pers comm., 2005), but it is clear from the original description that the species best fits the diagnosis of Neozavrelia. A typographic error in the original description that possibly has caused some confusion is that the hypopygium is figured in fig. 44d and not 41d as stated by Tokunaga (1938: 376).

Published as part of Ekrem, Torbjørn, 2006, A redescription of Neozavrelia cuneipennis (Edwards) comb. nov., with a checklist of Neozavrelia species of the world (Diptera: Chironomidae), pp. 1-16 in Zootaxa 1153 on page 14, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.172205
