The Heterosternuta species Following Alarie & Nilsson (1997) and Larson et al. (2000) the Hydroporus subgenus Heterosternuta has been given generic status and including 13 species (Nilsson 2001:153). As the gender of Heterosternuta is feminine, the following additional changes in the inflection of adjectives are necessary: H. alleghenianus (Matta & Wolfe, 1979) to allegheniana, H. laetus (Leech, 1948) to laeta, H. ouachitus (Matta & Wolfe, 1979) to ouachita, H. pulcher (LeConte, 1855) to pulchra, and H. sulphurius (Matta & Wolfe, 1979) to sulphuria.
