Species. M. pratai Sherlock and Guitton Etymology. We shall call it Microtriatoma pratai sp. n., in homage to our illustrious master of tropical diseases, Professor Aluisio Prata, whose teachings and investigative studies have greatly contributed towards clarifying the mechanisms of infectious and parasitic diseases such as Chagas disease. The insect described here may be one of the natural vectors for the biocenosis of T. cruzi (Sherlock & Guitton 1982: 131). Original citation. “Designamo-la de Microtriatoma pratai sp. n., em homenagem ao nosso ilustre mestre de doenças tropicais, o Prof. Aluisio Prata, que muito tem contribuído com seus ensinamentos e trabalhos de investigação para o esclarecimento dos mecanismos das doenças infectuosas e parasitárias, como a doença de Chagas, da qual o inseto aqui descrito, poder ser um dos vetores naturais na biocenose do T. cruzi ” (Sherlock & Guitton 1982: 131).
