Abstract

Thyreocephalus balianus n. sp. Type examined. Holotype Ƥ: Bali: Petang, 500 m, J. Pedersen 31.I.1994 (ZMUC). Description. Body brown reddish with lack head; antennae and legs brown testaceous, 15 mm long; length from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra 7 mm. Body shiny and flat. Head subquadrate, with almost subparallel and rectilinear lateral sides. Eyes small, not protruding. Surface of head with median horizontal strip of micropunctures; some big punctures as in fig. 16. Labrum as in fig. 17. Pronotum about as long as head, narrow, narrower than head, dilated anteriorly, with little puncture near anterior angles. Elytra large, wider and longer than pronotum, subrectangular, with rectilinear lateral sides and distinct humeri. Surface with fine and superficial punctures, arranged in some series. Scutellum large, with fine punctures. Abdomen without microsculpture, at sides and along basal impression with fine, very scattered punctuation. Male unknown. Distribution. It is known to me only from the type locality. Etymology. The specific epithet is based on the name of Bali. Notes. This species has very characteristic flat body, as well as coloration and punctation on the head and on the surface of the abdomen.
