Genus Turbonilla Risso, 1826 The Genus Turbonilla as commonly used is doubtless a polyphyletic assemblage. Schander et al. (1999) listed more than 40 genera in Turbonillinae. The knowledge of most of these genera are however scarce, and we therefore feel that we currently can not divide the West African species in a proper phylogenetic way, but are forced to place the new species in Turbonilla sensu latu. A proper revision of the family Turbonillidae is urgently needed.
