Amenazas y medidas de conservación de los moluscos terrestres

Abstract

Los caracoles terrestres y las babosas representan una fracción muy importante del patrimonio natural ibérico, y los endemismos malacológicos uno de sus elementos de más valor. En las últimas décadas los moluscos terrestres, al igual que otros grupos taxonómicos de fauna, se están enfrentando en su conjunto a una fuerte recesión en sus poblaciones como resultado de diferentes problemáticas ambientales. Fe de ello es que una parte significativa de las especies de moluscos terrestres españoles son consideradas como vulnerables o en peligro de extinción. La destrucción de l’hábitat es, sin lugar a dudas, el principal motivo de la recesión de las poblaciones ibéricas de moluscos continentales. Una de las causas más habituales de la destrucción del hábitat es el desmesurado desarrollo urbanístico. En muchos casos se trata de segundas residencias, y pueden ocupar amplias superficies de espacios naturales de interés. La ocupación urbanística produce fragmentación de los hábitats causada también por la construcción de infraestructuras lineales de transporte. Las vías de comunicación, especialmente las más transitadas, pueden producir la mortalidad directa debida a los atropellos y, al mismo tiempo, puede obstaculizar la capacidad de dispersión de estos organismos. La destrucción de los hábitats, cuando se prolonga en el tiempo y ocupa extensiones considerables de su territorio, fragmenta las poblaciones de gasterópodos y, en consecuencia, puede producir cambios a largo plazo en la estructura genética debido a la endogamia. Evidentemente, las poblaciones pequeñas y las muy fragmentadas son más vulnerables a las extinciones.
