Abstract

Inocellia digitiformis sp. nov. (Figs. 3, 23–28, 43) Diagnosis. This species is characterized by the distinct digitiform styli on the inner side of the male ninth gonocoxite and the gonarcus (fused gonocoxites 11) with a pair of digitiform processes. Description. Male. Forewing length 7.5 mm. Head subquadrate, black, clypeus yellowish brown, vertex medially with a pair of indistinct yellowish brown vittae. Antennal sclerite (torulus) and antenna yellow throughout. Mouthparts yellowish brown. Thorax blackish brown; meso- and metanota each with a yellowish marking anteromedially, and with a yellowish transverse marking on posterior margin of scutellum. Legs yellow with yellowish setae. Wings hyaline, pterostigma pale brown, veins brown. Anterior branch of Rs with one forked vein and one simple vein running to wing margin. Abdomen blackish brown, venter pale brown; each pregenital segment with a narrow yellowish transverse marking on posterior margins of tergite and sternite; genital segment yellow except for proximal portions of ninth tergite and sternite blackish brown. Ninth gonocoxite (Figs. 23–25) shell-like, suboval, slightly wider than long; subdistal portion of inner side dorsally with a robust digitiform stylus, which extends dorsad and distally bears a bristle tuft on the inner side, two additional bristle tufts lie anteriorly to the stylus and two more lie on the ventral part of posterior margin of ninth gonocoxite. Pseudostyli (basal parts of gonapophyses 9) (Fig. 24) paired and foliate. Fused parameres (complex of fused gonocoxites, gonapophyses, and gonostyli 10) (Figs. 25, 27) small, proximal portion flattened, roundly expanded, distal projection slightly curved dorsad with tip not concaved. Gonarcus (fused gonocoxites 11) (Figs. 24–26) shield-like, in caudal view subtriangular, dorsal margin laterally produced dorsad, medially with a pair of slender and digitiform projections near dorsal margin. Endophallus (Figs. 24–25) short, medially with a pair of bristle tufts directed dorsad and a bristle tufts directed ventrad. Ectoproct (Fig. 23) subquadrate in lateral view. Hypandrium internum (Fig. 28) small, lobes narrow. Female. Unknown. Specimens examined. Holotype 3 [pinned], CHINA: Sichuan Prov., Emeishan [29°35΄N, 103°25΄E], 7.V.1957, Z. Wang (IZCAS). Distribution. China (Sichuan Prov.). The species probably represents a stationary Yunnanian faunal element. Etymology. The specific epithet ‘digitiformis’ refers to the digitiform projections on the male gonarcus of the new species. It is an adjective in the nominative feminine singular. Remarks. The new species is readily distinguished from members of the I. crassicornis group in that the male ninth gonocoxite bears robust digitiform styli on the inner portions and the gonarcus exhibits a pair of slender digitiform processes.
