Zatypota inexpectata Seyrig 1932

Abstract

Zatypota inexpectata (Seyrig, 1932) (Fig. 21 a) Polysphincta (Zatypota) inexpectata Seyrig, 1932: 35 Diagnosis. Z atypota is characterized by metasomal tergites II-IV with sharp oblique grooves delimiting a large median diamond-shaped impression on each. Zatypota inexpectata is a small pimpline of very variable coloration. Description. Seyrig (1932). Comments. Seyrig’s description was based on a single female and thus could not indicate the rather strong intra-specific color variation and/or sexual dimorphism of Z. inexpectata. The description is now amended. Color: face and clypeus pale yellow to yellow in males (while in females both are black with two yellow spots below toruli); pronotum yellow in male (black in females); mesoscutum pale yellow to yellow with three pale orange to dark brown longitudinal stripes on lateral and median lobes, the central one often less distinct than both lateral stripes; metasomal tergite I orange to black; hind tibia yellow with apex infuscate to totally fuscous; meso- and metapleuron testaceous to dark brown; all coxae whitish in males (yellow in females, hind coxa black in type female); tergites II-IV orange to testaceous with the central impression showing the same variation though both variations are not concomitant (the four possible combinations occur in the examined specimens), the last tergites testaceous to dark brow with apex yellow. Distribution records. Reunion (new record). Madagascar. Material examined. 1Ƥ Le Tampon / ND de la Paix, alt. 1700m, VI.2011, leg. T. Ramage; 1Ƥ 333 same locality, V.2011, leg. T.
