Abstract

Lycomimus bejsaki sp. n. Description: Measurements of holotype—body length (excluding head, which is normally declined and barely visible from above) 6.3 mm; pronotal length 1.15 mm; pronotal width 1.9 mm; elytral length 5.3 mm; combined elytral width 2.4 mm; antennal length about 5 mm. Measurements of female paratype—body length (pronotum and elytra) 7.3 mm; body width 2.6 mm. Most morphological features included in generic description. Color of head, mouthparts, antennae, undersurfaces and legs dark-brown to black; pronotal disc dark-brown to black laterally and anteriorly, yellowish-orange mesally and posteriorly; scutellum and elytra yellowish-orange with posterior half of elytra dark-brown to black in male holotype or with narrow dark sutural stripe in three paratypes; apical antennomere yellow in some specimens. Vestiture consisting mainly of short, decumbent hairs with scattered slightly longer, suberect hairs; most decumbent hairs somewhat thickened and yellow in color, but those in dark areas somewhat finer and less inclined; thickened decumbent setae on pronotal disc variously directed, those on either side of midline facing towards midline, most of those in posterolateral portions of disc facing posteriorly; thickened setae on elytra also variously oriented, those in striae facing posteriorly and those in interstices facing posterolaterally. Vestiture on head and undersurfaces sparser and mainly decumbent. Male antennae moderately long, extending posteriorly at least to middle of elytra; scape about 1.5 times as long as wide, slightly curved; pedicel about one-third as long as scape and slightly transverse; antennomere 3 about 6 times as long as pedicel, somewhat flattened and asymmetrically expanded apically forming a short subacute ramus; antennomeres 4 and 5 slightly longer and wider than 3 with similar apical expansions; antennomeres 6–10 slightly longer but progressively narrower with rami increasing in length and becoming more acute, so that 10 is almost 2.5 times as long as wide with narrowly acute ramus; antennomere 10 about 5 times as long as wide, without ramus and with subacute apex. Female antenna similar to that of male but somewhat shorter. Male with mesofemoral tooth and apical abdominal projection as mentioned in generic description. Type specimens: Holotype, male (abdominal apex in glycerine): Australia: New South Wales: Liston, 14.xii.1986, V. R. Bejsak coll. (ANIC). Paratypes: 1 female (abdomen in glycerine): New South Wales: Allyn River Forest Park (32.08 S, 151.27 E), Chichester State Forest, 410m, 18–25.xii.1990, malaise trap, rainforest. D. A. Pollock, L. A. Reichert (ANIC); 1 male, Queensland: [Lamington] National Park, Dec. 1921, H. Hacker (QMB); 1 male (completely dissected), Lamington [National Park], QLD. Dec. 1991, R. L. Kitching (ANIC). Etymology: The species is named in honor of Richard Bejsak, the collector of the holotype.
