Authors: Stevanović, Miroslav;

Cephennium Stevanović, 2014, sp. n.

Abstract

Cephennium (s. str.) irenae sp. n. (Figs. 2–5) Type material studied. (6 ♂) Holotype: SERBIA: ♂, ” Srbija, pl. Tara, Zaovine, 920 m, 28.10.2008, leg. I. Stevanović“ (w, ph) / ” HOLOTYPUS, Cephennium (s. str.) irenae sp. n., det. M. Stevanović, 2009.“ (r, p) (MSNS). Paratypes: (5 ♂): SERBIA: 1 ♂, ” Srbija, pl. Goč, Gvozdac, 830 m, 23.09.2007, leg. M. Stevanović“ (w, ph); 1 ♂, ” Srbija, pl. Bukovi, kanjon [gorge] Lastve, 800 m, 23.06.1997, leg. N. Ilić“ (w, p) / ” Cephennium s.str. auberti n. sp, Cl. Besuchet det. 2006“ (w, ph). BOSNIA and HERZEGOVINA: 2 ♂, ” Bosnia, Pazarič, Zovnik, 21.v.1937, leg. Dr. J. Fodor“ (w, p). MONTENEGRO: 1 ♂, ” Montenegro, Mts. Bjelasica, Biogradska Gora, 1100 m, 19.07.2009, leg. M. Stevanović“ (w, p). All paratypes with the following label: ” PARATYPUS, Cephennium (s. str.) irenae sp. n., det. M. Stevanović, 2009“ or “...2014“ (r, p) (MSNS, PJWP, HNHM). Diagnosis. Pronotum subrectangular; antennomere VII elongate, 1.3 times as broad as long; in males metaventrite with moderately deep median impression, subtrapezoidal in shape, metaventral process broader than 1/3 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin W-shaped with very small triangular median notch; aedeagus in lateral view with strongly sinusoidally recurved parameres, in ventral view apex of median lobe truncated and with small median subtriangular projection. Description: Male. Body length 1.48–1.51 mm, moderately convex, pronotum brown with reddish hue, elytra black; head, legs and antennae lighter brown, tarsi and mouth parts yellowish, mandibles dark-brown with black apices, setation yellowish. Head broadest across moderately large eyes; length 0.16–0.18 mm, width 0.28–0.30 mm; frontoclypeal region subtrapezoidal, slightly convex; vertex moderartely convex; supraantennal tubercles slightly raised. Puncturation on frontoclypeal region and vertex very sparse, well-marked, with small punctures; setation moderately long, very sparse, suberect. Length of antennae 0.63–0.68 mm; antennomeres I–II subcylindrical, 1.4 times as long as broad, antennomeres III–IV slightly longer than broad, V subcylindrical, 1.3 times as long as broad, VI slightly longer than broad, VII elongate, 1.3 times as long as broad, VIII nearly as long as broad, IX–X transverse, 1.2 times as broad as long, XI subconical, 1.5 times as long as broad. Pronotum subrectangular, moderately convex, widest near middle, length 0.43–0.46 mm, width 0.53–0.57 mm, with broadly rounded anterior margin, posterior margin weakly bisinuate, sides strongly rounded in anterior third and very weakly convergent in posterior third; posterior corners obtuse. Lateral carina well-marked, finely microserrate. Puncturation fine, moderately sparse, composed of small and shallow punctures; setation moderately long, sparse, suberect to erect. Elytra oval, elongate, moderately convex, length 0.87–0.89 mm, width 0.59–0.61 mm, EI 1.42–1.47; widest in basal third; apices of elytra separately rounded. Each elytron with single basal fovea located in middle between humerus and scutellum; humeral carina short. Puncturation relatively fine, punctures shallow, moderately large, distance between punctures 1.2–2.3 times of their diameter. Setation moderately long, suberect to erect. Metaventrite with moderately deep median impression, subtrapezoidal in shape, very sparsely punctured, distance between punctures 1.5–3.0 times of their diameter, with moderately long and sparse setation; metaventral process broader than 1/3 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin W-shaped, with very small triangular median notch; lateral projections nearly as long as broad, apex of each forming sharp angle with blunt tip. Aedeagus (Figs. 2–3) length 0.46–0.48 mm, in ventral view apex of median lobe truncated and with small median subtriangular projection; in lateral view with strongly sinusoidally recurved parameres; endophallus as in Fig. 4, elongated. Legs moderately long and slender; protibiae as in Fig. 5. Female. Unknown. Distribution. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro. Etymology. Dedicated to Irena Fairchild (formerly Stevanović), the collector of the holotype. Remarks. The shape of the aedeagus of this species is very similar to that of C. leonhardi Rambousek, 1909. In C. irenae the aedeagus is distinctly longer (in C. leonhardi 0.35–0.42 mm) and has a different structure of the endophallus.
