Mysmena Simon 1895

Abstract

Mysmena Simon, 1895 Mysmena Simon 1894: 558. Type species by original description Theridion leucoplagiataum Simon, 1879: 258 (= M. leucoplagiata (Simon, 1879)). Composition. According to Platnick (2004), 26 described species, plus M. macylosa n. sp. described here from Vietnam. Distribution. Spain, Southern Europe to Azerbaijan, Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Fiji, New Guinea, Queensland, Tasmania, Samoa, Niue, Guyana, Trinidad, Saint Helena, Canada. Comments. The genus Mysmena was erected by Simon in 1894 initially as a genus of the family Theridiidae with the type species Theridion leycoplagiatum Simon, 1879; later transferred to the Symphytognathidae by Forster (1959), and then to the family Mysmenidae by Forster and Platnick (1977). In recent years, research on species description reports of this genus mainly comes from China (Miller et al. 2009; Lin & Li 2008, 2013a, 2013b), Japan (Ono 2010), Queensland (Lopardo & Michalik 2013) and Canada (Lopardo & Dupérré 2008).

Published as part of Lin, Yucheng & Li, Shuqiang, 2014, Mysmenidae (Arachnida, Araneae), a spider family newly recorded from Vietnam, pp. 169-194 in Zootaxa 3826 (1) on page 186, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3826.1.5, http://zenodo.org/record/252392
