Abstract

Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) capito Morawitz, 1862 (Figs 11–12) Harpalus capito Morawitz, 1862a: 220. Type locality: "Ussuri", Russia. Pseudoophonus cephalotes Motschulsky, 1861: 3. Type locality: " Japon ". Type material. Lectotype (present designation) of Harpalus capito: ♂, labeled "Ussuri, 223–1", and "223. capito Mor. " [Morawitz's handwriting] (ZIN). Additional material examined. More than 380 specimens (161 from China). Diagnosis. This species is distinctly distinguished from other members of Pseudoophonus by having elytral intervals 1, 3, 5 and 7 with a row of discal pores, and pronotal basal margin not bordered. Ligular sclerite with apical plate and with several dorsal setae. Median lobe of aedeagus (Figs 11–12) without any distinct sclerotized element in the internal sac. Body length 17.3–24.0 mm. Distribution. China: the north-eastern and eastern parts; known from Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Beijing, Hebei, Jiangsu, Taiwan (Kataev et al. 2003), Nei Mongol, Shanxi, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, Shandong, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and Hunan (Hua 2002). The species is also distributed in the south of the Russian Far East (Amur Province, Khabarovsk Territory and Maritime Province, the south of Sakhalin Island, and Kunashir Island), North and South Korea including Jejudo, and Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Sikoku, and Kyushu Islands) (Habu 1973; Lafer 1989; Kryzhanovskij et al. 1995; Kataev 1997; Kataev et al. 2003; Moon & Paik 2006).
