ÁCIDO GRAXO ÔMEGA-3 COMO ESTRATÉGIA ADJUVANTE NAS DOENÇAS NEURODEGENERATIVAS COMUNS DO ENVELHECIMENTO

Abstract

Introdução: O aumento da expectativa de vida colocou em evidência as doenças neurodegenerativas, o cenário emergente por estratégias alternativas para a prevenção e controle dessas patologias evidenciou a relação do estilo de vida saudável com a redução de risco ou o retardo do início do declínio cognitivo. Os ácidos graxos ômega-3 tem se destacado pelas suas propriedades anti-inflamatórias e por possivelmente possuir efeitos neuroprotetores. Objetivo: Analisar os efeitos da suplementação de ácido graxo ômega-3 nas doenças neurodegenerativas. Metodologia: A busca se deu por bases de dados eletrônicas, utilizando os descritores em saúde: Neuroproteção, Doença de Alzheimer, Doença de Parkinson e Ácido graxo ômega-3, nos idiomas português e inglês. Resultados e Discussão: Um ensaio clinico randomizado sugere que a suplementação do ácido graxo ômega-3 mostrou melhora na função cognitiva, e na expressão gênica de necrose tumoral alfa (TNF-α), o autor aponta a necessidade de estudos confirmatórios. Outro estudo, indica que a suplementação de ômega-3, pode reduzir as chances de desenvolvimento da doença de Parkinson, bem como retardar o aparecimento de sintomas, o autor aponta a estratégia como caminho promissor na melhora da qualidade de vida desses pacientes Considerações Finais: A suplementação do ácido graxo ômega-3 mostrou melhora na função cognitiva e na expressão gênica de necrose tumoral alfa (TNF-α). Os achados apontam ainda que a suplementação com ômega 3 pode oferecer proteção aos neurônios dopaminérgicos e é documentada como estratégia segura.
