The family Cyrtaucheniidae is relimited to nine genera distributed across Africa, Asia, and South America. Only the genus Ancylotrypa Simon, 1889 is known from South Africa represented by 29 species. An overview of the genus was provided by Dippenaar-Schoeman (2002) but it has not yet been revised. Opatova et al. (2020) provided new insight in the placement of the genus in the Mygalomorphae. The genus has been widely sampled during the South African National Survey of Arachnida with a total of 635 entries in the National Collection of Arachnida but only 41% of these entries have been identified to species level. Most of the species are still poorly known and 18 of them are listed as Data Deficient with 11 species listed as Least Concern.
