Scythropiodes Matsumura 1931

Abstract

Scythropiodes Matsumura, 1931 Scythropiodes Matsumura, 1931: 1099. Type species: Scythropiodes seriatopunctata Matsumura, 1931 = Protobathra leucostola Meyrick, 1921. Generic characters. Adult (Figs 1–2). Head with appressed scales on frons, with raised scales on vertex (Fig. 1 a); compound eye developed, almost as wide as frons (Fig. 1 b). Antenna (Fig. 1 c) filiform, with short cilia ventrally in males of some species, about three-fourths length of forewing. Labial palpus upturned, third palpomere as long as or slightly shorter than second, acute terminally (Fig. 1 d). Thorax with tergum slightly raised. Forewing (Fig. 2) subrectangular, R4 and R5 stalked basally, R5 to termen, M1 parallel with M2, M2 and M3 proximate at base, basal fork 1/3–1/2 length of 1A+2A. Hindwing (Fig. 2) subtrapezoidal, Rs and M1 stalked basally, M2 parallel with M3, M3 connate or coincident with CuA1 basally. Male genitalia (Fig. 3 a). Tegumen subrectangular. Uncus absent. Gnathos hooked. Valva variable in shape. Transtilla and juxta often with lateral lobes. Female genitalia (Fig. 3 b). Papillae anales elongate rectangular. Apophysis posteriores about two to three times length of apophysis anteriores. Ostium bursae situated between seventh and eighth sterna. Corpus bursae membranous; signum usually present. Diagnosis. Scythropiodes is similar to Odites, but can be separated from it by the well-developed, hooked gnathos in the male genitalia. In Odites, the gnathos is reduced or absent.
