Gibbotettix Zheng 1992

Abstract

Gibbotettix Zheng, 1992 Gibbotettix Zheng, 1992, Entomotaxonomia, 14(1): 1–2; Jiang and Zheng, 1998, Grasshoppers and Locusts from Guangxi, 278; Liang and Zheng, 1998, Fauna Sinica, Insecta vol. 12, Orth. Tetrigoidea,45; Zheng and Fu, 2003, Acta Entomologica Sinica, 46(1): 58–59; Zheng, 2005, Fauna of Tetrigoidea from Western China, 41; Deng, Zheng & Wei 2007, Fauna of Tetrigoidea from Yunnan and Guangxi, 38; Zeng and Zheng, 2011, Acta Entomologica Sinica, 54(7): 843; Zha, Wen, Yu & Hyde, 2016, Journal of Natural History, 50(37–38): 2390. Type species: Gibbotettix emeiensis Zheng, 1992. Redescription. Body small, surface coarsely, with many tubercrles. Head not exserted, its vertex is wide and its width two to three times the width of an eye; in profile, vertex and frontal ridge are forming a right angle; slightly raised between antennae. Frontal costa widely forked between the ocelli, the rami strongly divergent. Antennae filiform, located below the eyes, mid segments 7–10 times as long as wide. Eyes globose. Anterior margin of pronotum distinctly produced over the head in profile, disc of pronotum conspicuous elevated, gibbose, median carina high and lamellar at the former part, low at the latter part; humeral angle obtuse angular or wide rounded; top of hind process truncated and slightly concave in middle. Posterior angles of lateral lobes of pronotum turning outwardly, with its apex truncate. Tegmina and hind are absent. Upper and lower margins of fore and middle femora with two lamellar convex; posterior femora stout, first segment of hind tarsi longer than second and third segments together. Differential diagnosis. This genus is similar to Austrohancockia Günther, 1938 and Epitettix Hancock, 1907 but differs from the two latter genera by the anterior margin of pronotum distinctly produced over the head in profile, disc of pronotum conspicuous elevated, gibbose, median carina high and lamellar at the former part, low at the latter part.
