Impacto de los inhibidores sglt2 en el riesgo cardiovascular

Abstract

Actualmente la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) supone uno de los problemas de salud m��s frecuentes y relevantes en materia de morbilidad y mortalidad a nivel mundial, especialmente debido a enfermedad cardiovascular (CV). La mayor��a de los pacientes con DM2 padecen de m��ltiples patolog��as concurrentes como la hipertensi��n arterial, obesidad y dislipidemias, que por s�� solas y en conjunto representan factores de riesgo CV importantes. Dada la dificultad inherente al manejo del riesgo CV en el paciente con DM2, han surgido m��ltiples alternativas terap��uticas que buscan no s��lo un buen control metab��lico, sino tambi��n alg��n efecto a��adido. Esto reducir��a en gran medida el potencial de polifarmacia y resultados adversos relacionados. Evidencia reciente ha generado particular inter��s en el efecto de los inhibidores de SGLT2 debido a que parecen no s��lo disminuir el riesgo CV y mejorar el control glic��mico, sino que adem��s confieren un efecto renoprotector. En consecuencia, esto mejorar��a indirectamente el riesgo CV. Por tal motivo, el objetivo de esta revisi��n es evaluar los mecanismos farmacol��gicos que subyacen a este espectro tan amplio de beneficios para este grupo de medicamentos y, adem��s, revisar la evidencia cl��nica que respalda su uso en este grupo de pacientes.
