Myiomma Puton 1872, sp. nov.

Abstract

Myiomma Puton, 1872 Myiomma austroccidens Yasunaga, Yamada & Tsai sp. nov. — Taiwan (Nantou, Taichung), Ryukyus (Amami- Oshima) and Yakushima Island—Unknown. Myiomma choui Lin & Yang, 2004 — Taiwan (Hualien, Nantou)—Unknown. Myiomma kentingense Yasunaga, Yamada & Tsai sp. nov. —Taiwan (Nantou, Pingtung)— Fraxinus griffithii (tree trunk). Myiomma minutum Miyamoto, 1965 (Figs 2E–F, 4H–I, 9F–G)—Ryukyus (Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands)—Several adults were found on Fraxinus griffithii on Ishigaki Island. Note: The live individuals (Fig. 2E–F) of this species are shown for the first time. Myiomma minutum can be distinguished from the assumed closest congener, M. samuelsoni, by the almost uniformly dark or reddish brown metafemur (cf. Fig. 4H). Myiomma samuelsoni Miyamoto, 1965 (Fig. 4F–G, 7G–I)—Ryukyus (Okinawa, Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands)— Both adults and nymphs were found on Fraxinus griffithii. Note: Lin & Yang (2004, 2005 for the male genitalia) reported this taxon from Taiwan, based on examination of 13 specimens collected using Malaise traps at Wanfeng, Taichung. However, our recent examination revealed that these specimens do not correspond to M. samuelsoni but represent an undescribed species (M. austroccidens sp. nov., see below descriptions). Accordingly, M. samuelsoni is excluded from Taiwanese fauna. Myiomma takahashii Yasunaga & M. Hayashi, 2002 (Fig. 4J)—Ryukyus (Ishigaki Island)—This species is known to inhabit the trunk of Fraxinus griffithii, where any of seven isometopines, M. Astroscopometopus gryllocephalus, Isometopus ishigaki, I. takaii, Kohnometopus fraxini, Myiomma takahashii, M. minutum and M. samuelsoni, frequently co-occur (Yasunaga, 2001; 2005). Myiomma zhengi Lin & Yang, 2004 — Taiwan (Hualien, Taitung, Taoyuan)—Unknown.
