Abstract

En el presente trabajo se estudian cuatro textos publicados en prensa, que calificamos como discur-sos apologéticos de la lengua, esto es, producciones escritas en las que se critican duramente ciertos usos lingüísticos para reforzar y defender la pureza del castellano. El objetivo de su estudio es pro-fundizar en cómo se desarrolla en las publicaciones periódicas del último cuarto del siglo XIX el manido debate sobre la pureza del castellano, prestando especial atención a las ideas lingüísticas de los autores y la reflexión metalingüística que se desarrolla en los textos. Con todo, este artículo pretende colaborar a reconstruir la historia del pensamiento lingüístico a través del estudio de una fuente no canónica y su relación intertextual con las tradicionales de la época.
