Melanogryllacris Karny, 1937 Type species: Gryllacris atrata Walker, F., 1869 (= Melanogryllacris atrata atrata) Diagnosis. The genus is characterized by the dark, mostly black coloration. Tegmina have a black to dark brown surface with lighter veins. A unique morphological character is the short and somewhat down-curved female ovipositor with obtuse tip.
