Another Facet of a Conducting Polymer : Dissolution and Redeposition of Polypyrrole

Abstract

Chemical Physics Group, Tala Institute of Fundamental Research. Colaba, Bombay-400 005 Manuscript received 29 January 1993 A galvanostatic process of dissolution and redeposition has been developed using a chemically deposited polypyrroleon a cotton substrate as the positive electrode in trifluoroacetic acid. The redeposition of the conducting polymerhas been carried out on metals like Pt or ITO (indium tin oxide) or AI. In this process, the conductingpolymer is solubilised in the medium and transported to the cathode. The deposited polypyrrole has an excellentmorphology for use in the conducting polymer battery. The infrared spectral features are analysed and compared with the parent polymer.

Keywords

Polypyrrole, Polymer, ITO
