Genus Lecithocera Herrich-Schäffer, 1853 Type species: Carcina luticornella Zeller, 1839. More than 50 species, including 22 species from Madagascar and Comoros Islands, have been listed for the fauna of the Afrotropical region, but many of them, especially the species described by Viette, will need in the future to be transferred to other genera of Torodorinae. Taking their genital characters into account, this applies to bariella Viette, 1958, decaryella Viette, 1955, hiarakella Viette, 1988, masoalella Viette, 1955, and mocquerysella Viette, 1955. In southern Africa, excluding Madagascar and its adjacent islands, eight species including L. officialis Meyrick have been listed here below.
