Synthesis of some 3-Aroyl-4-alkylbenzopyran-1H-1-ones and Mechanistic Studies on the Synthesis of 3-Aroyl-4-arylbenzopyran-1H-1-ones

University of Baroda, Vadodara-390 002 Manuscript received 27 May 1996, revised 28 April 1997, accepted 13 August 1997 Reactions of bromoacetophenones (2) with o-acyl/aroylbenzoic acids (1,4) yielded the products 4-alkyl-3-aroylbenzopyran-1H-1-ones (3) and 3-arylbenzofuran-1H-1-ones (6). The high product sclectivity is observed depending upon the nature of the substrate taken.
