Authors: Finet, Yves; Snyder, Martin Avery;

Fusus longicauda Lamarck 1801

Abstract

Fusus longicauda Lamarck, 1801 1801 Fusus longicauda Lamarck: 82 1816 Fusus longicauda Lamarck: 6, pl. 423, fig. 2 1822 Fusus colus (Linnaeus) Lamarck: 123, sp. no. 3 1832 Fusus colus (Linnaeus) Deshayes: 148 1840a Kiener: 5, pl. 4, fig. 1 Locality of Lamarck’s material: l’Océan des grandes Indes. Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: 1 specimen MHNG INVE 51705 (ex MHNG 1098/7), 17 cm. This specimen does not seem to be the one figured in Lamarck (1816) pl. 423, fig. 2 (stated as pl. 424, fig. 4, a caption error). It probably is the one figured by Kiener, pl. 4, fig. 1. Locality on the label: Océan Indien. Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained two specimens. Current taxonomic position: Fusinus colus (Linnaeus, 1758); placed in synonymy with Fusinus colus by Lamarck (1822): 123; type species of Fusus Bruguière, 1789, renamed Fusinus Rafinesque, 1815. Locality is central Pacific, westwards.
