Het historisch probleem rond de Romeinse kustverdediging in NW-Gallie en SE-Engeland om vat twee essentiële aspecten: enerzijds het opzoeken van de redenen die geleid hebben tot de oprichting, de evolutie en het verlaten ervan, en anderzijds het bestuderen van de aangewende methodes en de ingezette middelen.
