Department of Chemistry, Regional Engineering College, Rourkela-769 008, India Manuscript received 7 December 1998, accepted 18 December 1998 The complexes of Schiff base 2-aminothiophenolsalicylidine having the stoichiometry MLX3, where M = MnII, CoII, and MLX, where M = ZnII, L = ligand, X = neutral ligand (pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline and \(\gamma\)-picoline) have been prepared. The ir spectra reveal tridentate nature of the Schiff base ligand and coordinated through N-atom of neutral ligand. The electronic spectra suggest the octahedral geometry except ZnII which is tetrahedral. All the complexes except the complexes of Znll are paramagnetic.
